Chatpata Chana

I used to buy this during my bus or train journeys years back. Those small packets of crunchy spicy chickpeas and green peas were our regular munching. Those carefree days were probably the best part of my life like everyone! Well, life goes on! But some flavours, never change. A single hint and you are back to the particular time! However, I saw it in a post of my very talented blogger-friend Shruti Gandhi. It's her recipe from cookingwithsj.com that I followed, apart from couple of minor modifications. Thanks a ton Shruti..:)
It's a super-healthy yet "chatpata" munching. This is not a fried thing and with really less oil. Also really easy to make.

Recipe adapted from "Cooking with SJ"
Ingredients for "Chatpata Chana":
  1. Chickpeas 200 gm
  2. Refined oil 1 table spoon
  3. Cumin seed 1 tea spoon
  4. Coriander seed 1 tea spoon
  5. Dry red chilli 1
  6. Paprika/ kashmiri chilli powder 1/2 tea spoon
  7. Salt to taste
How to prepare "Chatpata Chana":
  • Soak chickpeas overnight. Wash them few times. Boil with little salt until tender but in shape. I pressure cooked until 3 whistles. Keep in mind that chickpeas should remain in proper shape but tender.
  • Dry roast cumin seed, coriander seed and dry chilli separately until they are nicely fragrant. Let them cool a bit and grind together.
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C.
  • Take a large mixing bowl. Add oil, paprika, spices and salt. Mix well. Add chickpeas. Stir & mix.
  • Arrange them on a baking tray. (I lined my baking tray with aluminium foil). Roast for 40-45 minutes or until they look crispy in texture. Turn them to other sides couple of times while roasting.
  • Let it come to room temperature and you can store in a air-tight jar. Or just enjoy munching!!
